Spotsylvania and Lake Anna Property Search & Homes For Sale

Surrounding the incorporated city of Fredericksburg is richly historic Spotsylvania County, home to approximately 90,000 residents.

Lake Anna is a crystal clear 13,000 acre man made lake that is perfect for boating and family activities, it is also Virginia's second largest lake and home to many fishing tournaments and the Lake Anna State Park. The quiet countryside with horse and cattle farms is a breath of fresh air to city dwellers seeking a slower pace or vacation spot. The lake is centrally located and is only 30 minutes to Fredericksburg, an hour from Richmond and Charlottesville, and 1 1/2 hours from the Washington, D.C. monuments and museums. Spotsylvania is located among the rolling hills and serene rural countryside typical of the state. The strikingly beautiful Fredericksburg region still bears the scars of the many major Civil War battles fought in the area. One such battle was fought at the site of the Spotsylvania Court House, lasting two weeks and resulting in 30,000 casualties. The area today is preserved under the auspices of the Fredericksburg and Spotsylvania County Military Park, which also includes miles of preserved ground that marks the huge Chancellorsville battlefield.

The county's schools are excellent, offering a wide range of accelerated, alternative and adult education programs as well as traditional academics and special services. The district prides itself on striving to meet the needs of its diverse student body. In addition to good schools, the city and surrounding area offer affordable homes, friendly people, and excellent shopping. Antiques and unique one-of-a-kind items can be found throughout the region.

Lake Anna, the Rappahannock River, and other nearby lakes, rivers, and streams provide abundant recreational opportunities, as do the many city and county parks. The Chesapeake Bay, Blue Ridge Mountains, and the Atlantic Ocean are all located nearby, offering even more opportunities to get outside and enjoy the state's mild climate and four distinct seasons. Nestled midway between Washington, DC, to the north and the state capital of Richmond to the south, Spotsylvania is an ideal place to call home.
